Aurangabad, Nov 15:

Taps in different parts of the city will go dry on Padwa festival on Monday as a cable which supplies electricity to the main water supply centre was burst.

It may be noted that the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) had failed to provide water on Abhyangsnan last year. It was hoped that sufficient water would be made available on this Diwali. The output cable at the main pump house was burnt eight to ten days ago. The repair was completed, and the supply was resumed.

The Water Supply Department deployed officers and employees to keep water on water supply for 24 hours. The supply was uninterrupted in the first four days of the festival. Suddenly, the input cable of the centre was burst at 7 pm on Sunday. Both the pipelines stopped supplying water to the city.

On receiving information, senior officers of the civic body rushed to the spot. Efforts are to resume supply to the old city areas through 700 mm water supply. But employees were failed to repair it by 9 pm. Another 1400 mm pipeline which supplies water to Cidco-Hudco areas too stopped.

The officers and employees of AMC and Mahaveetran started repair work on war-footing and will continue it by late night. Citizens will not water for a bath on Padwa festival.

Those areas which supposed to get water on November 16 will deprive it. The civic body claimed that the repair would be completed as early as possible.

The officers said that they would try to supply water to the colonies even it resumes at 6 am on Monday. Had the AMC changed this cable along with other eight days ago, this situation would not have arrived.
