In the fourth Test match between India and England in Ranchi, England showcased a remarkable comeback on Day 1 after a shaky start. Despite early setbacks, England managed to reach a challenging total of 302/7 in their first innings, largely credited to Joe Root's stellar performance with his 31st Test century.

Facing India's bowling attack without Jasprit Bumrah, England found themselves in trouble early on, losing five wickets for just 112 runs before lunch. However, debutant pacer Akash Deep turned the tide with an impressive spell, claiming three crucial wickets and keeping England's top order in check.

Root, along with wicketkeeper-batter Ben Foakes, orchestrated a stunning recovery for England with a resilient 113-run partnership for the sixth wicket, marking the highest partnership for England in the series so far. Despite India's efforts, the duo guided England past the 200-run mark with traditional Test cricket.

After tea, Mohammed Siraj provided India with a breakthrough by dismissing Foakes, who contributed a crucial 47 runs. Siraj continued to trouble the English batsmen, also dismissing Tom Hartley to regain India's dominance in the final session.

However, England's resilience shone through once again as Root, supported by Ollie Robinson, forged an unbeaten 50-plus partnership for the eighth wicket. Root's century, his 10th against England, further solidified his place in cricket history as he remained not out on 106 off 226 balls. Robinson showcased his batting prowess with an unbeaten 31 off 60 balls.

By the end of the day's play, England had posted a formidable total of 302/7 in 90 overs. With both teams displaying commendable performances, cricket enthusiasts eagerly anticipate further action in the upcoming days of the Test match.
