New Zealand's poor run at ICC events has finally come to an end with Kane Willamson's side winning the first ever ICC World Test Championship in Southampton. After rain played spoil sport for majority of the days a result was unlikely. However, New Zealand pacers led by Tim Southee wrecked havoc with ball in the second innings. The Indians in the process of quck runs perished with Pant ending with the highest score. India gave it their everything with R Ashwin offering Indians a slight glimmer of hope with two quick wickets,

However, Kane Willamson and Ross Taylor ensured their are no more hiccups in the run chase. In the end, Kane Willamson's side romped home with 8 wickets in hand. At the tea break on the Reserve Day, New Zealand's score read 19/0 with 120 more runs required for the win. For the Kiwis, Latham (5*) and Conway (9*) ensured a steady start. Earlier, resuming the second session at 130/5, Pant and Jadeja managed to add 12 more runs to the total before Jadeja's (16) stint at the crease came to an end as he was sent packing by Neil Wagner. The left-armer angled one across the channel, and Jadeja poked at the delivery, handing an easy catch to BJ Watling behind the stumps. Mohammed Shami did manage to add 13 valuable runs to the total, but in the end, it was all about waiting for the innings to end. Kyle Jamieson returned with two wickets while Boult picked three. Not to forget Wagner's lion-hearted effort even though he had only one wicket to show for his efforts.ICC mace has been India's for a long time and to lose it in under 4 days of cricket does raise doubts on Virat Kohli's captaincy.
