The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Wednesday unveiled the Rs 39,038.83 crore budget for the year 2021-22. The total budget estimates for the next financial year are 16.74 per cent more than the last fiscal when it had presented a budget of Rs 33,441 crore. 

BMC has estimated a health budget of Rs 4,278 crore for the year 2021-22.

Check out the highlights: 

  • 1.5 Tesla MRI facility to be made available at Nair Hospital soon; provision of Rs. 17 to 20 crores
  • Provision of Rs. 40.30 crore from Covid Fund for availability of Liquid Oxygen Tank
  • Special policy to conduct health check-ups of senior citizens at home - Provision of Rs. 5 crore
  • Provision of Rs. 20 crore for availability of manpower in Nursing Professors
  • 100% children to be vaccinated for infectious diseases by 2030
  • Kasturba Hospital will be renovated
  • Fund of Rs. 30 crore for modernization of Deonar slaughter house
  • A provisional Rs 2,000 crs fund has been proposed for ongoing Coastal Road Project in the FY 2021-22. This year's provisional budget for this project has increased by 25% from last year's proposed estimate.
  • Rs 1339.94 crore for sewage treatment plant, 229.50 crore for major water works and 67 crore for Mithi river project.
  • Considering the importance of public transportation, BMC has allotted a provisional Rs 750 cr fund to BEST for FY 2021-22.
