On the wake of the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the country, the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) has suggested to the Mumbai Municipal Corporation that offices, local and schools can start from November 1, 2021. This is the date drawn by the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research on the classical model. The Tata Institute of Fundamental Research has developed a mathematical projection on the Covid-19 pandemic, worked out by the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIIFR) and submitted to the BMC.
On herd immunity within the metropolis, the crew has stated that by December or January subsequent 12 months, nearly 75% of the individuals dwelling in slum pockets and in 50% of non-slum pockets would have antibodies. The TIFR team said the city could be partially opened by 30 per cent in September in terms of office attendance and transport capacity in Mumbai. This proportion could be increased to 50 per cent in October. The city should open more slowly and be fully operational by November 1, Dr. Juneja said. The report also said that public transport should adhere to social distance norms, including mandatory use of masks, hand hygiene and regular disinfection of vehicles and workplaces.
The TIFR crew partnered with the BMC to conduct the three-ward sero-surveys in Mumbai. The primary such survey in July indicated that 57% of the slums and 16% of the non-slum pockets had developed antibodies. The TIFR evaluation of the second sero-survey is probably going later this month. Maharashtra reported the fastest growth is coronavirus infection in August, registering over 3.70 lakh cases. Maharashtra on Saturday had reported its highest-ever single-day spike of 20,489 cases taking the total count of infections to 8,83,862. This is the fourth consecutive day that Maharashtra reported a record number of fresh cases.
