Mumbai last week witnessed heavy down pour leading to water logged roads and a lot of disruption in many parts of the city. The city received the highest rainfall in four decades.

Amid the heavy rains, 50-year-old Kanta Murti Kalan stood for at least 7 hours near an open manhole, on a waterlogged road, in Matunga, Mumbai. A video of the woman standing, near the manhole, for seven hours had gone viral.

Kanta stood there for hours in order to save people from falling into the manhole. She was there for seven hours until the BMC workers arrived. Kanta Murti, a flower seller, lost her house and savings in the floods.

Kanta Murti says, "I uncovered the manhole to drain water & stood there to warn vehicles. BMC officials came later & scolded me for it."

"I sell flowers to make a living and support my 3 children's education. My 5 other kids are married and I am the only earning member in the family. My husband is handicapped after being paralysed from a railway accident, she told news agency ANI.

Many people priased Kanta but she brushed it apart, saying she did what she thought was right to do in the given circumstances.
