Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar on Sunday said some people think building a temple will help eradicating the COVID-19 pandemic, a day after the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teertha Kshetra Trust suggested two dates in the next month for laying the foundation stone for a Ram Temple in Ayodhya.

The trust had invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to lay the foundation stone either on 3 or 5 August.

"Eradication of COVID-19 is the priority of the Maharashtra government, but some people think constructing a temple will help in its mitigation," Pawar told reporters in Solapur when asked about the proposed date for laying of the foundation stone for a Ram temple.

Meanwhile, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut on Monday (July 20) said that the battle against Corona is fought by our doctors in white robes, whom we call angels, Faith in religion and in God is constant. Many doctors, police and health workers in this country have sacrificed their life while fighting the deadly coronavirus. With God's blessing they will fight this battle.

He further said that Ram temple is a matter of faith and his party does not do politics on this issue.

Raut said Shiv Sena has always worked to remove hurdles in the way of construction of Ram temple at Ayodhya. He added that Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray went to Ayoydha even when he was not the Chief Minister of Maharashtra and he also went to the holy land after taking oath as the chief minister. Raut noted that no one needs invitation from anyone to visit Ayodhya.
