On the day of National Doctors' Day, a doctor couple from Wanwadi Azad Nagar in Pune committed suicide by strangulation. Dr Nikhil Shendkar and Dr Ankita Shendkar had studied medicine and were practicing. On Wednesday, while returning home in the eveing Nikhil had a fight with his wife Ankita over the phone. The fight escalated to such an extent that Ankita hung up on him. After Nikhil returned home, his knock on the door went unanswered. He realized that Ankita was not opening the door when he came home, he broke the door and entered. He saw his wife Ankita hanging from the cieling fan at home.

He informed the Wanwadi police at 8 pm. Accordingly, the police reached his house. They took Ankita down and took her to Sassoon Hospital. There, doctors pronounced her bought dead.

Doctors said in an autopsy report that she died of strangulation. Police later handed over her body to his brother Omkar Dattatraya Talekar (resident of Uruli Kanchan).

Nikhil suffered a major mental shock when Ankita committed suicide. After that, he also ended his life by hanging himself with the help of a cloth. But the reason behind their suicide is still unknown. The incident came to light at 7 am on Thursday. Wanwadi police has registered a case of sudden death and an investigation is underway.
