Vaccine shortage: Rajesh Tope clarifies why he took second vaccine dose after 30 days

A vaccination campaign has been launched in the country to curb the outbreak of coronavirus.However, the shortage of vaccines and queues at vaccination centers have increased the problems of general public.Many states are facing COVID vaccination shortage across the country. Many citizens are rushing to vaccination center to take second dose after taking the first dose of the corona vaccine.

However, an online appointment for the second dose of Covishield from the Center will be made only after 84 days. Therefore, those taking the second dose will have to wait 84 days. It was initially told that the second dose must be taken after 4 weeks, then has been increased to 6 weeks and now again the time for taking the second dose has been increased to 12 to 16 weeks after the first dose has been taken.

Amid the vaccine shortage Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope took his second dose of the vaccine in 30 days. After which the minister was heavily criticized on social media. After the criticism health minister himself has clarified the controversy around second dose jab. 

Finally, Rajesh Tope tweeted about it and gave an explanation. He wrote,"After I took the first dose of Covaxin vaccine, I took the second dose on the 30th day as per the guidelines of the Central Government. The new rule for the Covishield vaccine is to keep a gap of about 80 days between two doses."
