Nagpur, Jan 31

The Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) received 2,000 doses of Bharat Biotech’s ‘Covaxin’ vaccine in the first phase of corona vaccination. Now the health department has given 3,200 vaccines for booster dose. It is being observed that Covaxin is getting lesser response compared to Covishield.

Recently around 8,39,000 Covishield doses were made available to the State by Serum Institute out of which, Nagpur received 38,500 doses. Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin dose is being distributed in six districts in the State. This includes J J Hospital from Mumbai, Government Medical Colleges at Aurangabad, Solapur and Nagpur, and district general hospitals in Pune and Amravati. But the vaccine is getting less response than expected everywhere.

Vaccination only for 440

out of 1,400 beneficiaries

Medical has two centers for vaccine administration. The target for both centres was of 1,400 vaccinations by January 29. But out of them only 440 beneficiaries came forward for vaccination, which is 31.42 percent. Notably, 348 out of 1,000 beneficiaries were vaccinated at Center A, while 92 out of 400 beneficiaries were vaccinated at Center B, which was recently started. Clerks and para medical staff are far behind than doctors in getting vaccinated.

2,000 beneficiaries will be vaccinated?

GMCH was given 2,000 doses in the first phase of vaccination. So far, only 440 beneficiaries got vaccinated. Those who took the first dose of the vaccine will receive a second booster dose 28 days after the first dose and 3,200 doses have been made available for this. However, due to the low response to Covaxin, everyone is wondering whether 50 per cent vaccination will be achieved in the first phase?
