Nagpur, Oct 18

The Railway Board has resumed trains six months after lockdown was announced with a rider that Covid-19 appropriate behaviour would be followed.

Despite this, all Covid-19 rules are being violated with impunity at the Nagpur Railway Station.

Physical distancing norms are not observed at the Nagpur Railway Station while a large number of people are found roaming without wearing masks. Similarly, people are found spitting without any regret at various places on the railway station.

Under such conditions, fear is being expressed that Railway Station would soon turn into a hot spot for Covid-19 re-emergence.

physical distancing norms

This reporter observed that people at the Western entry point of the station were standing at a distance of less than 1 foot from each other.

The situation was even worse on the railway platforms.

In an attempt to get into the train quickly, people gather at the door of the each compartment in a large number and are also found touching each other on board the train and exchanging many things.

Railway staff working

under shadow of fear

Meanwhile, many railway employees have harboured the fear of getting infected by Covid-19 virus.

The offices of railway station director, deputy station manager, loco pilot lobby, Railway Protection Force (RPF) and railway police are situated on platform number 1.

A large number of trains arrive on this platform. Fear is being expressed if a single passenger is found Covid-19 positive, all other railway staff may get the infection.

Railway administration must adopt stricter approach

The physical distancing norms are not followed at the railway station. The railway administration should increase the number of ticket checkers to thwart this situation.

Similarly, patrolling by RPF at each platform must be done more vigourously and railway administration must adopt a stricter approach to compel passengers to follow Covid appropriate behaviour in toto.
