Nagpur, April 21

Nagpur has a population of around 30 lakh and around 3.90 lakh people have taken the first dose of vaccine and close to 44,000 people have taken the second dose also. All citizens above 18 years of age will be vaccinated post-May 1 and there are around eight lakh beneficiaries in that age group. The NMC administration has claimed that they have achieved around 60 per cent of target in the above 45 years category, but the numbers tell a different story. According to statistics, only 12 per cent have been administered Covid vaccine.

The NMC administration has only 20,000 vaccines available with them, which can only suffice for two-three more days at maximum. If eight lakh citizens have to be vaccinated, vaccination centres, as well as the availability of vaccines doses, need to be augmented, else the campaign will be affected.

27K doses needed daily

There are around 19,00,787 above 18 years and people in the age group of 18 to 45 are eight lakh, so if all need to be vaccinated, NMC will need to vaccinate around 25-27K daily.

Only 3 days stock in city

Vaccination has been going on across 122 centres in city, which has a capacity of 20,000 plus per day, but at present only 6,000-7,000 vaccinations are taking place every day.

1.51 lakh vaccinations of above 60 years complete

Around 1.51 lakh citizens above the age of 60 have been vaccinated. Senior citizens were very enthusiastic about vaccination in the beginning, but now the tempo has reduced. There is a need to increase vaccination centres to cater to the population above 18 years of age, else it would be difficult to manage the crowd at vaccination centers.
