Andhra Pradesh: ‘Four Relationships, No Love’—Kadapa Woman Dies by Suicide Amid Alleged Fiancé Harassment, Details Ordeal in Note

A young woman’s dream of marriage tragically turned into the reason for her death, sending shockwaves through the community. Rehana, 26, ended her life by hanging herself at her residence after allegedly facing severe mental harassment from her fiancé, a software engineer based in Bengaluru, who wanted to call off the wedding. The woman was a resident of the Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh. Before taking the extreme step, she left behind a detailed 12-page suicide note that stunned both the police and her family. Rehana had recently completed her MSc degree and was looking forward to her future. Her engagement to Shahjahan was held on February 15, and the couple was scheduled to marry in August this year.

Initially, the relationship appeared smooth, with the couple spending hours talking on the phone and building a connection. However, everything changed drastically over the past three weeks when Shahjahan’s behaviour reportedly shifted. In her suicide note, Rehana described how he told her he no longer loved her and had no feelings left. She also wrote that he admitted to having had four previous relationships and said he did not like her at all. According to the note, he claimed he was addicted to alcohol and was agreeing to the marriage only due to pressure from his father, indirectly pushing her to break off the engagement.

Rehana’s body was discovered at her home on Patel Street in Kadappa on Wednesday, leaving her family devastated and seeking justice. Her parents have alleged that Shahjahan deliberately pushed their daughter into depression by humiliating her and repeatedly expressing his unwillingness to marry her. They believe the emotional trauma she endured drove her to take the drastic step. In the 12-page note, Rehana reportedly detailed the mental agony she went through. Following a complaint filed by her father, police have arrested Shahjahan along with his parents, M. Veeraiah and M. Waheeda, on charges of abetment to suicide. A court has remanded them to judicial custody as the investigation continues.
