With 4,205 COVID-related deaths in the last 24 hours, India reported another grim record of the highest single-day death toll in one day, as per data from the union health ministry. The last record was reported on May 7, with 4,187 deaths. A total of 3,48,421 new COVID-19 cases and 3,55,338 discharges were reported in the last 24 hours, taking the country's total positive cases so far to 2,33,40,938.

The second wave of corona appears to be affecting more young people, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). The ICMR said that a large number of young people may have started leaving the house and there are variants also prevalent in the nation which may be affecting the younger people as well this has led to an increase in the incidence of infection.
Are young people more likely to get corona infections? Asked about this, ICMR Director General Balram Bhargava said, "Looking at the data from the first and second waves, there is not much difference in age. People over the age of 40 are more vulnerable to adverse effects," he said.
Bhargava said, "The incidence of infection among the youth seems to have increased a bit, as they have suddenly started leaving the house. Apart from this, there are variants a new type being found in the country and which may have had an effect, "he said.
Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Telangana, Chandigarh, Ladakh, Daman and Diu, Lakshadweep and Andaman and Nicobar Islands showing continuous decrease in daily new COVID-19 cases, informed Ministry of Health.
