On the 159th birth anniversary of India's first Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore a number of world leaders took to Twitter to pay their respects to Tagore.  Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal wrote, "My tribute to Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore on his birth anniversary. His work in literature, philosophy, education and music touched people the world over." Rajasthan Chief Minister, Ashok Gehlot, wrote, My humble tributes to Nobel laureate Gurudev #RabindranathTagore on his birth anniversary. His literary contribution across different genres continue to inspire all  across the world.

Politician and former International diplomat Shashi Tharoor remembering Tagore wrote, #Gurudev #RabindranathTagore, polymath, poet, artist, lyricist, playwright, novelist & educationist, on his birth anniversary [though Bengalis celebrate 25th Boisakh on 9 May]. He gave voice to India's soul. Let us strive for his India "where the mind is without fear" On the other hand, the birth anniversary of Tagore will be a low-key affair during lockdown in Bengal. Amid the ongoing lockdown to fight COVID-19, the West Bengal government has decided to celebrate the birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore on Friday in a less colourful manner, a senior government official said.
