Aurangabad, Oct 13:

A team of Orthopaedic Surgeons from MGM Hospital carried out bilaterla total hip replacement together successfully. This was the first such surgery in Marathwada region. A gap of three to six months is given for the replace of each joint-hips.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Dr Girish Gadekar said that a 28-year-old man Datta Sawant was suffering from arthritis and sever deformities of both hip joints for the past two years.

He said that Datta Sawant had difficulty in standing and walking and was unable to do his day today work.

“Generally in such cases a two phase surgery is performed in which one side surgery is done first and the second one is carried out after a gap of three to six months. This was the first time that one stage surgery of both side performed in the region. The patient was able to stand and walk the next day of surgery. After his discharge, he can walk without support of walker,” he said.

Dr Gadekar said that bilateral hip surgery is challenging, but, it saves money of patients and help him for the fast recovery. The other team members are Dr Gajanan Kathar, Dr Abhishek Kulkarni, Dr Kaiwan Randeria and Dr Monica Verma.
