Aurangabad, April 21:

Around 450 COVID patients died in the district during the last one month, creating panic in one and all. It may be noted that the number of pandemic patients started increasing on March 6. A total of 1,859 persons passed away in the district between March 15 and April 15.

Of them, 450 were COVID while the remaining (991) had a natural death. Last rites were performed on an average 62 dead bodies at different crematoriums and graveyards.

The second wave of the virus has caused more deaths than the first one. The long queues of dead bodies were seen in the mortuary Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). There is waiting at the crematorium for hours.

The death figure was slow at the beginning while it increased by mid-March. A total of 211 patients died up to March 31 and the flow continues even in the current month. Nearly 239 patients passed away from April 1 to 15.

The number of natural death is also high, as 991 died in one month. There is waiting at the crematoriums and graveyards also.

Smashanjogi from Pushpanagari Govind Gaikwad said that a minimum of three hours required to complete the last rites on a dead body.

Last rites were performed on the patients who were from other district but died in the city. The number of such deceased is 418. Patients come to the city for treatment from Marathwada and adjoining districts.
