Aurangabad, Oct 15:

Maharashtra''s Medical Education and district contact minister Amit Deshmukh today clarified that Congress party had always contested the local self-government elections on its own strength. Accordingly, the party will contest the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) also on its strength.

Deshmukh was speaking to the newsmen at a press conference organised in the city today.

In reply to a question that why the state-level Maha Vika Aghadi pattern (the alliance of Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress) could not be retained at the AMC elections, Deshmukh said, " There is no concrete reason to it, but there is a demand from local office-bearers and activists to contest the election on our strength." We will also frame a policy to face parties like AIMIM in future, he clarified.

In reply to a question that the activists get disappointed when he does not meet them, the contact minister replied that he would be coming regularly, hereafter.

Deshmukh, however, avoided commenting when asked whether Congress party wants to contest the elections on its own because the party had staged several demonstrations against the policies of the then rulers (Shiv Sena and BJP) of AMC during the last five years?

Deshmukh also mentioned that MPCC would be framing a strategy for Graduate Constituency election. Former MLA Kalyan Kale, Namdev Pawar and Jitendra Dehade were also present on occasion.

There is a consistent demand to grant permissions for cultural programmes and entertainment sectors. The demand is under consideration, and very soon the government would be taking a favourable decision upon it, said Deshmukh.
