Aurangabad, May 17:

The city recorded a low birth rate by March 31, 2021 because of COVID spread.

It may be noted that the pandemic virus started spreading in the district since March 2020. The first wave over and the second wave commence.

Marriages are being postponed for the past few months as there is permission to invite only 50 persons for the function. It seems that those couples who married during the last 15 months decided not to have a baby, fearing COVID infection. Some experts fear that children between zero and five years of age may be infected by the virus in the third wave.

A total of 1253 children contracted it so far. Some Gynaecologists from the city said that very few patients visit their maternity homes and the number of baby births has come down. The birth and death certificate issuing department of Aurangabad Municipal Corporation too recorded the low number of childbirth. The city recorded the birth of 15,898 babies by March 2021 while much lower than the 2020 and 2019 years.
