Aurangabad, March 7:

A grand super specialty block was established at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) from the funds of Rs 105 crores from the state and union government. Planning was made here to give treatment from the rich to the poorest here. However, the super-specialty treatment has been hampered due to the Corona crisis. The block is being used for the treatment of Corona patients for the past one year.

The union government provided Rs 120 crores and the state government Rs 30 crores for this super specialty block. The building work was started in 2016 and continued till 2019. However, later the work was stopped due to some reasons. Meanwhile, there was a Corona outburst in 2020, and this block was completed immediately.

In the initial Corona phase, this building proved a boon for the treatment of the infected patients. Since then, the building is used to treat Corona patients for almost a year now. The serious corona patients were admitted to the GMCH, and there was a lack of space here. Hence, this super specialty building was used for the treatment of severe patients. However, the equipment bought for the super-specialty is lying unused.

The Cathlab for the test of angiography and angioplasty is ready in the block. Permission has been sought from the Medical Education and Research Directorate. The angioplasty and other cardiac treatment can be started after gaining permission, said Dean Dr Kanan Yelikar.

219 posts in the block has been sanctioned. The super specialty in nurology, nephrology, nurology, cardiology, nionatalogy, burns – plastic surgery can be provided to the poor people in this block. Now, people have to go to private hospitals for these facilities.
