Aurangabad, April 9:

Unidentified thieves decamped with 35 to 40 boxes of liquor from the godown of the state excise department. The incident came to light on Friday. The place where the theft took place is guarded day and night.

The office of the superintendent of state excise is located near the government Dudh dairy. The liquor confiscated from illegal dealers in the district is kept in a godown. A constable from the department is stationed here round the clock on guard. However, boxes of liquor are being stolen from the room for months. According to information, a team of crime branch headed by API Manoj Shinde had received information about the theft. Accordingly, they raided the house of the suspect and seized seven boxes of country liquor. The suspect confessed that the goods were stolen from the excise department. When the police went to the spot they saw that the lock was intact. Besides, nothing was damaged. They reported the incident to the excise department. Later, security guard M H Bahure went to Krantichowk police station on Thursday night to lodge a complaint but returned without registering a complaint, police said. Doubts are being raised as the security guard and other officers are silent on the matter.
