The city MP, Imtiaz Jaleel, today urged the LT consumers to pay 50 per cent amount of the latest electricity bill posted to them and the state government would be deciding on the remaining 50 pc amount of the bill. If it fails to take its stand on the issue in one month, then the citizens should not pay a single penny to the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL).

" The state government is providing crores of rupees relief to bank loan-defaulters through various schemes. It is their moral responsibility to provide relief to poor and middle-class citizens. The Prime Minister announced the implementation of lockdown in March. Responding to him, the citizens stayed in their homes and also kept their businesses closed for the past six months. It is obvious that the electricity consumption had gone up, but the electricity bills posted by MSEDCL shocked lakhs of consumers.

AIMIM staged demonstrations to draw the attention of the state government and the MSEDCL in July and August under the leadership of our state''s working president A.G.Quadri. The decision is yet to be taken. Hence, it is the final demand to the state government and the MSEDCL to do justice in connection with the bills within one month," said the MP while speaking to media persons, this morning.

The decision will provide relief to around 2.5 lakh citizens, whose monthly consumption of electricity is between 100 units and 250, it is learnt.

The MP also expressed his concern over the posting of electricity bills to places of worship or religious places which are maintained through donations of generous visitors. Due to the closure of places of worship, there were no visitors in the last six months. Hence, the management committee had landed into trouble over how to arrange for money to pay these bills, said the MP adding that the leaders of all political parties should also come on roads to raise the people''s issues and get justice for them.
