Aurangabad, March 9: The Covid-19 pandemic is spreading its tentacles in the district again. What is worrying is that the number of deaths caused by the rampaging virus has doubled in a month. Stopping deaths has thus become a major challenge before the administration.

On January 8, the number of Covid-19 victims was 1,212 and by March 9 it rose to 1,301. From May 13 to November last year, Covid-19 deaths were recorded every day in the district. After that the daily deaths stopped. Moreover, only one or two deaths were being reported intermittently giving a great relief to the citizens and health machinery.This situation prevailed till January this year. However, the things changed dramatically in February. The number of corona patients rose rapidly. The number of serious patients and deaths is also high.

55 per cent serious patients

Condition of 55 per cent patients admitted to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) currently is serious. As on today, a total 293 patients have been admitted here and out of them 163 are serious. The GMCH administration is worried that there is constant increase in the number of serious patients.

Statistics of Covid-19 patients in the district

January 8 to February 8 - 29 deaths; 1,121 new patients

February 9 to march 9 - 60 deaths, 6,077 new patients

Total deaths (by Tuesday evening) - 1,301.

Death rate in the district - 2.43 per cent
