Aurangabad, June 18:

Covid-19 has taken a heavy toll on traders and common people. Therefore, the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has decided not to impose a two percent penalty on property tax for three months from July to September this year. The decision will bring some relief to the property owners.

Merchants, ordinary citizens found themselves in a financial crisis in the second wave of coronavirus. Therefore, the citizens and traders associations had demanded the corporation to repeal the penalty levied on property tax. With this in mind, administrator Astik Kumar Pandey announced the waiver. This decision will be a great relief to the property owners, said deputy commissioner Aparna Thete.

Tax deduction on time

Property tax is levied from April every year. Therefore, if the tax is paid in the month of April, citizens get a discount of ten percent, 8 percent discount in May and 6 percent discount in June. No penalty is imposed during these three months.

2.70 lakh property owners in the city

There are 27,000 commercial property owners in the city and 2.43 lakh residential property owners. The decision taken by the municipal administration on Friday will benefit 2,70,000 property owners in the city. The administration also appealed to the property owners to pay taxes on time.
