Aurangabad, Oct 20: Plasma therapy was being given to critically ill patients of Covid-19. In addition to the critically ill, plasma therapy will now be offered to patients with mild and moderate symptoms in the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).

The therapy was started in GMCH on August 13 by giving plasma to a 48-year-old critically ill corona patient. But this therapy has not progressed since then. Twenty-four patients who recovered from Covid-19, donated their plasma. But only two patients in the GMCH were given plasma in two months. One of the plasma was donated to a private hospital patient. There are currently 41 plasma bags lying in the GMCH blood bank storage. Apart from severe patients of corona, it will also be used for mild and moderate patients. A study of the effects of therapy on mild and moderate patients will draw conclusions about how it benefited them. Plasma donations are more prevalent in private hospitals than in the GMCH. Nearly, 15 corona patients were given plasma in a private hospital in the city.

Work as per guidelines

Plasma therapy will also be given to mild and moderate patients. The work will start as soon as we get the guideline from the committee in Nagpur, said dean Dr Kanan Yelikar.
