Aurangabad, Oct 20:

The district congress disabled cell activists on Tuesday held a protest in front of the municipal corporation demanding direct depositing of cash into the bank accounts of the specially-abled and scrapping of the welfare schemes introduced by the municipal administrator for disabled.

Disabled cell city president Mudassir Ansari led the protest. Speaking on the occasion, Ansari said, "Maharashtra government has directed to spend 5 per cent of the municipal budget on the disabled. Last year, the corporation put money directly into the account of the disabled. However, municipal administrator Astik Kumar Pandey decided to start welfare schemes for the disabled as per the government directive." The delegation submitted a memorandum of demands to the corporation administration.

The statement said that Aurangabad Municipal Corporation had not spent the planned amount for disabled since 2016. Last year, the then commissioner Nipun Vinayak had adopted a policy of direct depositing the amount in the bank account of disabled. We are protesting against the decision of the existing administrator to implement a welfare scheme for the disabled. Abdul Azim, Sheikh Jameel, Sheikh Munir, Munavvar Khan, Sanjay Khude and others were present in the protest.
