The Gujarati community rooted the practice of playing Garba in the city during Navratri. Later the garba play became popular among citizens. Garba not only has cultural significance, but also economic significance. Arrangement of Garba went in the hands of event management companies. Politicians got involved in the event to gain popularity and the event got a grand look. This led to a turnover of crores in the city. Dandiya was organized on 6 grounds in the city, 2 places in Satara area and 3 places in Bajajnagar. In about 100 small to medium scale events were being organized in the city. A large project costs Rs 30 to 40 lakh in nine days while a small and medium scale project costs Rs 2 to 4 lakh. Out of this, the turnover in the city was around Rs 6-7 crores. Apart from this, a turnover of Rs 60 to 70 lakh in rental clothes for Garba, Rs 15 lakh to Rs 20 lakh from direct sale of dresses, Rs 10 lakh to Rs 15 lakh from beauty parlor business, Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh from Garba classes and Rs 2 lakh to Rs 5 lakh on Mehndi and footwear. Meanwhile, inviting celebrities also cost around a lakh. This totals upto Rs 8-10 crore. Similarly 3,000 people were directly and indirectly employed, from laborers to orchestra performers. Their employment also got hampered.
