COVID-19: Covid vaccination drive disrupted in Thane as center faces shortage of vials

The Centre on April 19 had announced a ''liberalised'' policy, making all above 18 years of age eligible to get vaccinated from May 1. The vaccination drive in Thane was affected owing to shortage of vaccines on Tuesday. Due to the severe shortage of corona vaccine in various parts of the state, many people have to wait in line for hours and return without getting vaccinated.

A big commotion was witnessed at the vaccination centre at Tembhi Naka in Thane today. The vaccination center had only 50 doses left and more than 500 people were in que waiting to get their jab since 5 am. The centre gave jabs to 30 people while 20 will be vaccinated in the second phase.

As a result, the citizens standing in the queue got into an argument with the security guards of Thane Municipal Corporation. Many citzen had to return without getting jab following a shortage of vials. Citizens created ruckus at Thane Municipal Corporation School No. 12.

Citizens will now have to take token from this school and go to Wadia to get vaccinated. 40 doses are available at Wadia Health Center. On the other hand, there was similar chaos at Thane Civil Hospital and the citizens got into fight with security guards 

Maharashtra reported 48,700 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, according to the state health bulletin on Monday. The state also recorded 71,736 discharges and 524 deaths in the last 24 hours. With this, the total cases in the state mounted to 43,43,727 including 6,74,770 active cases and 36,01,796 discharges. The death toll, however, surged to 65,284 including the new deaths.
