There is a good news amid the second wave of coronavirus crisis, the number of new cases are declining in Maharashtra. The number of new cases in Mumbai, Thane, Aurangabad and Jalgaon including 12 districts of the state is decreasing.

The graph of coronavirus cases in 13 states including Maharashtra is flattening and the number of new patients in these states will soon be declining, the health department said.

Union Health Department Joint Secretary Lav Agarwal informed about this in a press conference. He presented a graph of the last five weeks. He said that the number of new patients in 12 districts of Maharashtra are declining. According to the graph, the number of new cases has decreased in Mumbai city, Mumbai suburbs, Thane, Aurangabad, Jalgaon, Nanded, Latur, Nandurbar, Washim, Bhandara, Dhule and Gondia districts.

The daily coronavirus cases graph of the state has also been flattening and has not increased much in the last few days. In the second wave, 68,631 new patients were found in Maharashtra on April 18. On May 2, 56,647 new patients were found. This shows a decline in new coronavirus cases. In most of these districts, the number of patients reached the peak between April 4 and 17. Since then it has declined.

In Maharashtra, Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Punjab, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Daman and Diu, Lakshadweep and Ladakh, the number of patients has been declining in the last 15 days. However, the decline has been seen recently and it would be premature to comment on it, said Lav Agarwal. "This is a good sign and continuous efforts are needed at the district and state levels to reduce the number of patients," Agarwal said.

Despite the decline in the number of new patients, there are currently more than one lakh active patients in 12 states. There are more than 1 lakh active patients in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. There are an average of 50,000 to 1 lakh active patients in seven states. In 22 states, the positivity rate is more than 15 per cent.
