According to the Central Railway, the on-duty trackmen Heera Lal and Mithun Kumar, both aged 26, during a routine inspection noticed the rail fracture near Patripul on down fast line at 6.35 am. Upon seeing train number 22105 Indrayani Express approaching with speed, trackman Mithun Kumar ran towards the approaching train with a red signal and timely stopped the train, whereas Heera Lal protected the site.

Following this, the work of restoration and making the track safe for traffic was completed at 7.15 am.“Due to their (the two trackmen) prompt, vigilant patrolling and action, a major mishap has been averted. Their work is appreciable,” said Shivaji Sutar, chief public relation officer of Central Railway.  Due to the crack in the railway line and emergency repairs, there was a delay in local train services for 10 to 15 minutes on the Central line between Kalyan railway station and CST, reported the Indian Railways.
