Workers of the Maratha Kranti Morcha on held a protest on Thursday in  Jalna, Pune Kolhapur demanding that the Maharashtra government take steps to continue reservation for the community in education and employment.

"Granting reservation may not be in the state government's hands but other things like recruitment come under the state government. They must make sure that proper justice is served to the Maratha community. They said the recruitment won't happen now but just yesterday the home minister announced recruitment in Police," Rajendra Kondhare, Maratha Kranti Morcha leader told .

On September 9, the Supreme Court directed that no quota will be granted to people of the Maratha community in education and jobs in the state this year and referred the hearing on a batch of plea challenging the constitutional validity of a Maharashtra law granting Maratha reservation in education and jobs to a larger bench.

In Pune, visuals from the protest showed Maratha Kranti Morcha workers in black clothes next to the Collector office.

In Jalna, some activists of the Maratha Mahasangh blocked the way of state Health Minister Rajesh Tope when he came out of a function in Town Hall area. The police quickly intervened and detained three activists, an official said.

In Kolhapur, members of various Maratha outfits staged a protest outside the Gokul Milk Union office and warned that they would not allow any milk tanker to go to Mumbai and Pune. Some protesting members were later detained by police, another official said.

They also demanded that admissions of students from the Special Economically Backward Class (SEBC) done before the stay be secured and concessions granted to students from that category should continue, he said.
