Members of Maratha outfits hit the streets in different parts of Maharashtra on Friday to protest against inefficient handling of the Maratha quota issue by the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government.

On September 9, the Supreme Court directed that no quota will be granted to people of the Maratha community in education and jobs in the state this year and referred the hearing on a batch of plea challenging the constitutional validity of a Maharashtra law granting Maratha reservation in education and jobs to a larger bench.

Protests were held in Osmanabad district near the famous Tuljabhavani temple over the quota issue. BJP MP Sambhaji Chhatrapati also took part in the protest.

Another protest was held at Parliin Beed district, also in central Maharashtra.

The protesters accused the Shiv Sena-led government of adopting a lackadaisical attitude towards the quota issue. The protesters also opposed the government going ahead with the police recruitment and Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) exams.
