The omicron virus has spread throughout the world. Cities like Austria and Germany have imposed lock down. Although a large number of people have been vaccinated in Pune, children have not been vaccinated. Therefore, the decision to close schools from 1st to 7th till December 15 was taken by Pune Municipal Corporation. At present there is only one active patient of Omicron in Pune city. Also, Pune Municipal Corporation is keeping an eye on the passengers coming from abroad.

In this connection, PMC has decided to start schools in the city from December 16, informed Commissioner Vikram Kumar. The state government had decided to start schools from class 1 to 7 on December 1. After that, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had appealed to be vigilant due to omicron virus. However, after the education department and Rajesh Tope made it clear that there would be no change in the decision to start schools, preparations were started to start schools in many districts.

However, the Mumbai Municipal Corporation had announced that the school would not start from the Dec 1 considering the danger of this virus. The Pune Municipal Corporation had said that the school would be closed till December 15.
