The Maharashtra Housing and Development Authority (MHADA) has been given 21 stalled slum restoration programs. The greatest of these initiatives, the Zopu Yojana, which consists of 14,000 huts in Malad, Malvani, has finally been launched by the Mumbai Board of MHADA. For the rehabilitation project of Rajiv Gandhi Nagar, which is spread across 51 hectares, the authorities have decided to hire an architect and consultant. MHADA issued a tender for this on April 12. As per this tender, the architect will prepare the project plan and manage the project to execute the tender process. This project will take six years to complete. Crucially, this is one of the largest plans of MHADA.
The authority has turned over 21 Zopu yojana to MHADA in accordance with the state government's directives. The Mumbai Board will introduce 17 of these feasible plans. As a result, the Board previously launched the Jagruti Zopu Yojana in Chembur, the Sai Baba Zopu Yojana in Jogeshwari, and Shramik Nagar in Kurya. The Zopu Authority has sent the Board a Letter of Intent (LOI) for these three developments. These plans will shortly be put into action. However, the board has recently adopted the largest Zopu Yojana.
With 1,500 to 2,008 square meters of area, the three designs that have been granted letters of intent are extremely small. However, up to 14,000 huts on 51 hectares would be restored as part of the Board's Goregaon Division's Rajiv Gandhi Nagar Rehabilitation Scheme. For the rehabilitation plan, which will be carried out in a cooperative collaboration, the board will now select an architect and consultant. The board's senior executives have been notified that the tender for this has been released.

The Rajiv Gandhi Nagar Zopu Yojana was to be launched through a private developer. A developer was also appointed for that. However, the project was shelved for 15 years as the project became unfeasible due to financial and technical reasons. As a result, 14,000 slum dwellers were waiting for rehabilitation. But now their wait will be over, and their dream of rehabilitation will be fulfilled in the next six years. So this is a big relief for 14 thousand slum dwellers in Rajiv Gandhi Nagar. Meanwhile, this redevelopment will provide Mumbai Mandal with a large number of additional houses for allotment. The exact number of these houses will be announced once the plan is finalized.
