City's Bhavyashree Mahalle and Sandeep Gond hogged the limelight by clinching gold medal on the third day of Maharashtra State Junior Athletics Selection Trials which are in progress at Sant Dnyaneshwar Sports Complex, Pimpri-Chinchwad in Pune.
In under-16 girls section, Bhavyashree, a student of JP English School won gold in 2000 m race clocking 6.44.40 seconds. Gayatri Patil of Kolhapur and Sakshi Bhandari of Ahmednagar came second and third respectively. In Under-16 boys 80 m hurdles Sandip Gond of Om Sai Sporting Club , Umred triumphed. He clocked 10.92 seconds to secure first place. Dhairyashil Patil (Nashik) and Balraj Pardeshi (Auranabad) achieved second and third place respectively.
In Under-14 girls 60 m race, Sanvi Pathak of Modern School secured bronze medal with a timing 8.20 seconds. Pune's Rutuja Bonsale and Ahmadnagar's Divyanshi Lande emerged winner and runners-up respectively. In the same age category, Akansha Sodia of Navmaharashtra Krida Mandal achieved third place in 600 m race. Bhagyashree and Akansha are coached by Jitendra Ghordadekar whereas Sandeep Gound and Praful Bele have been trained under the guidance of Praful Bele.
NDAA secretary Dr Sharad Suryavanshi has expressed satisfaction over the performance of city athletes. NDAA officials Gurudeo Nagrale, Nagesh Sahare, Dr Sanjay Choudhary, Shekhar Suryavanshi, Dr Vivekanand Singh, Dr Aditya Soni, Ramchandra Wani, Prof. Bunty Prasad Yadav, Umesh Naidu, SJ Anthony, Archana Kottewar have congratulated the athletes and wished them best luck.
