The Jharkhand High Court on Saturday (April 17) granted bail to Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav in the fodder scam case thus clearing the way for his release from jail.

The bail was granted to the RJD supremo by Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh.

The former Bihar Chief Minister was granted bail on the conditions that he will neither leave the country without permission nor change his address and mobile number during the bail period, as per a PTI report.

Yadav, who has been in prison since December 2017, was sentenced to seven years imprisonment in 2018 under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and seven years under the Prevention of Corruption Act in connection with the fodder scam case. The case pertains to the fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 3.5 crore from the Dumka treasury by Animal Husbandry Department officials between 1991 and 1996 when Yadav served as the State's Chief Minister.

"We were confident that we'll get justice. Lalu ji has served half of his sentence, High Court granted him bail on that ground. We thank High Court. He's admitted at AIIMS. We are happy he got bail but we are worried about his health,"  said Tejashwi Yadav, Lalu Yadav's son & RJD leader
