Diwali, often referred to as the Festival of Lights, is a celebration that is already in full swing, with preparations taking place in households across the country. People of all ages, from children to the elderly, enthusiastically partake in the festivities. The allure of fireworks is hard to resist, but it's important to exercise caution when handling them, as firecrackers have the potential to cause significant harm if not handled carefully.

Each year, approximately five thousand individuals in the country lose their eyesight due to firecracker-related accidents. The loud sounds generated by firecrackers have the potential to cause both permanent and temporary deafness. It's crucial to maintain a safe distance when igniting firecrackers and avoid getting too close to them to prevent any unfortunate incidents. Handling fireworks with care is essential to ensure a safe and joyful Diwali celebration.

When fireworks are being lit, it's important to closely supervise any children present and prevent them from approaching too closely. It's advisable to have a bucket of water readily available as a safety precaution. Additionally, wearing a helmet is advisable, especially when there are numerous people setting off firecrackers on the road. Taking appropriate precautions with fireworks is essential to ensure a safe and enjoyable Diwali for everyone.

Firecracker vendors should consider establishing their stalls in remote or less densely populated areas rather than central or crowded locations. Additionally, it is crucial to inform customers about the loudness and intensity of the firecrackers they are purchasing. Providing clear information about the fireworks' noise levels helps customers make informed choices and contributes to a safer and more considerate Diwali celebration.

When setting up a firecracker stall, it's essential to consider the location and local regulations. If the stall falls within the jurisdiction of a Gram Panchayat (local rural government), it may be necessary to obtain their recommendation or approval. Additionally, it can be beneficial to provide a map of the proposed stall area as part of the approval process to ensure compliance with local guidelines and to promote safety during the sale of firecrackers.

The sale of expired and decorative crackers is not permitted. It is also prohibited to ignite or light firecrackers on the road or within a 10-meter radius of the road. Violating this rule can result in strict legal action being taken. Additionally, there should be a safety buffer of 50 meters from firecracker shops to ensure a safe and compliant environment during Diwali celebrations.

Fireworks are strictly prohibited in the vicinity of firecracker stalls. Additionally, bursting firecrackers that produce noise exceeding 125 decibels, as well as the sale of noise-producing firecrackers during Diwali, is prohibited. Stringent actions will be taken against individuals who violate these rules to ensure a safe and peaceful festive season for all.

When bursting crackers, it's advisable not to do so in narrow lanes. If possible, choose open areas and parks for your fireworks display. Additionally, avoid wearing synthetic clothes and opt for thick, cotton clothing, preferably well-fitted. Make sure all clothing is secure and not loose-fitting. If any burns occur, refrain from applying creams, ointments, or oil to the affected area, as it's important to take proper care and seek medical attention if needed.
