India's active Covid-19 cases rise to 35,199

The Union Health Ministry has reported an increase in India's COVID-19 tally, with 5,880 new cases bringing the total number of infections to 4,47,62,496. Furthermore, the number of patients currently undergoing treatment has also risen to 35,199.

The Union Health Ministry released new data on Monday morning, revealing that four people died in both Delhi and Himachal Pradesh, and one person each in Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan due to COVID-19. These new fatalities bring India's total death toll from the virus to 5,30,979. In addition, Kerala has added two more names to the list of patients who lost their lives due to the pandemic, further increasing the death toll.

As per the latest updates, the number of active coronavirus cases in the country is 35,199, which accounts for 0.8 per cent of the total cases. The national recovery rate is at 98.73 per cent. The daily positivity rate is 6.91 per cent and the weekly rate is 3.67 per cent. The total number of recovered cases stands at 4,41,96,318 and the COVID-19 case fatality rate is at 1.19 per cent. The nationwide vaccination drive in India has administered 220.66 crore doses of COVID-19 vaccines so far, as per the Health Ministry website.

The coronavirus cases in India have reached various milestones in the past year. The cases surpassed 20 lakh on August 7, 2020, 30 lakh on August 23, 2020, and 40 lakh on September 5, 2020. On September 16, 2020, the total cases crossed the 50-lakh mark, followed by 60 lakh on September 28, 2020, 70 lakh on October 11, 2020, and 80 lakh on October 29, 2020. The cases then reached 90 lakh on November 20, 2020, and on December 19, 2020, the cases surpassed one crore. On May 4, 2021, the number of infected crossed two crore, and on June 23, 2021, the cases crossed three crore. On January 25 last year, the total cases of infection had crossed four crore.
