Aurangabad, March 12:

The Cantonment police arrested an absconding accused, who duped seven persons of Rs 15 lakh by luring them to double their money in two years. The court has remanded the accused in police custody till March 15.

The accused has been identified as Sanjay Balasaheb Thombre (Maji Sainik Colony, Padegaon). The other accused in the scam, Indubai Sanjay Thombre, Sachin Sanjay Thombre, Nitin Sanjay Thombre have already been granted anticipatory bail by the court.

The accused had lured the complainant Rekha Bhagwanrao Gaikwad from Padegaon that he will make her money double in just two years. As both were living in the same locality, she was convinced with the offer. Later, Thombre also took Rs 2.16 lakh each from Nanda Sambhaji Gajale, Mathura Bhika Ghuge, Hamida Amir Khan Pathan, and Haridas Namdev Pawar and Rs 3.06 lakh each from Suman Shankar Ghodke and Rs 1.08 lakh from Lata Vasant Gavade.

Gaikwad paid Rs 2.16 lakh to Suman Ghodke and Indubai Sanjay Thombre in February 2018. Later, Thombre, along with his family, went to his native village. In July 2020, the investors went to his village and asked for their money, but Sanjay’s son threatened them. Hence, the investors lodged complaint at the Cantonment police station. Accused, Sanjay Thombre was at large since then. Today, PSI, P S Bhagile, on receiving the information that he is in the city, laid a trap and arrested him.
