Aurangabad, July 3:

Students from rural junior colleges will obtain a higher percentage than city area colleges in HSC.

The reason is that most of the 11th students are given cent per cent marks in rural colleges while evaluation of students city colleges is very strict in the same standard.

It may be noted that the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) cancelled the 12th standard examinations because of the second wave of Covid 19. The State Government announced n Friday announced the evaluation criteria for HSC examinations in the State.

As per the criteria, the candidates will be evaluated on the basis of scores in college-based assessments in class 12th and class 11th examinations and the best of three performing subjects in class SSC examinations.

Marks in one or more (unit test, practice examinations etc.) theory papers of HSC will carry 40 pc weightage whereas marks in the final examinations of 11 standard and the average of the best three performing theory papers of SSC will have 30 pc weightage each. In city colleges, many students who took 11th standard casually may score low.

The reason is that such students appeared for 11th class as a formality while preparing for competitive examinations like National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test or JEE-Main or MHT-CET. Other students may have appeared for the first or second semesters of the 11th class. This will result in students from rural junior colleges obtaining good passing pc than the city. Commenting on this, the Principal of Maulana Azad College Dr Mazahar Farooqui, said that the marks of the 11th class would surely affect the 12th class result.

“Because many students who score good marks in SSC remain busy in preparing for the competitive examinations like NEET and JEE and take 11th standard examinations casually,” he said.

Not only this, city students may lose an opportunity of getting admissions in undergraduate courses as it is given on the basis of merit list only.

Dr Farooqui said there are no common entrance tests for many traditional UG courses, so more rural students are likely to get admission opportunities than in the city.

Rajnikant Garud, vice-principal of Deogiri College, said too feels that the percentage of 12th of those students who received low marks in 11th would go down.

“The result of those candidates who have high hopes of scoring good marks in HSC will not obtain that much pc. Aspirants of IIT and medical don't much pay attention towards the 11th study as they know that they would get admissions on the basis of entrance only. The talented students would get more pc if there was more weightage to SSC result,” he asserted.
