Aurangabad, June 16:

A private travels agency owner was booked with Kranti Chowk Police Station for cheating at Rs 13.50 lakh on the pretext of taking the complainant's parents for Haj pilgrimage.

According to details, the accused Abbas Ali Wahid Ali Hashmi (38, Nandanvan Colony) took Rs 8.10 lakh in 2017 from the complainant Syed Jamiluddin Gaffar for taking the latter’s parents to Haj pilgrimage as the first installment for airfare, visa and other expenses.

The accused also took Rs 5.40 lakh from the complainant’s friend Zafar Pathan for taking his parents on the pilgrimage. The four pilgrims were taken to an airport in Mumbai, but fled from the spot without booking their tickets.

Later, Abbas Ali accepted his mistake and promised Syed Jamiluddin to refund the amount. But, he did not refund the amount. Jamiluddin lodged a complaint with Kranti Chowk Police Station against Abbas on June 15. Police arrested the accused and produced him in court. He was remanded in police custody up to June 18.
