As many as 238 birds died in the Maharashtra on Wednesday, said Animal Husbandry Department. The samples of dead birds have been sent for examination. A total 2,096 bird deaths have been reported in the state from 8 January till now.

Maharashtra has confirmed bird flu after 800 chickens found dead at Murumba village in Parbhani district, an official said. Bird flu has now spread to five districts. Bird flu has been confirmed in Mumbai, Thane, Parbhani, & Beed districts as well as in Dapoli of Ratnagiri district.

In order to assess the situation arising out of the bird flu outbreak, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Monday also chaired a meeting to review the bird flu situation in the state.

States like Kerala, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and union territory Delhi have confirmed spread of bird flu.
